After school sewing class – Tuesdays in September
Tuesdays in September, 4-6pm, age 8 and up.
Tuesday 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26.
Over the 4 week period, students will start & complete a project of their choice with instruction from Liz along the way. Students will come 4 Tuesdays in a row to work through their project with instruction from Liz. Beginner to advanced students are welcome to bring a project to the sewing studio.
Students should bring a sewing pattern, fabric and thread for the project. Please email Liz if you need help finding an appropriate project. Sewing projects should be suited for the student’s sewing level with some instruction (e.g., if your child is a complete beginner, select a beginner or easy pattern). Â
Patterns will normally include information on which fabric is appropriate for the pattern. If the pattern recommends a fabric that is unfamiliar to you, please email Liz to see if it will be an appropriate project. Some fabrics are more challenging to work with than others.
Where to get fabric: The Fábrica (https://thefabrica.org/), 703 Pacific Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, has very affordable fabrics that are upcycled & saved from the landfill. This is my favorite place to get fabric in Santa Cruz, but they have limited hours so plan ahead.Â
Hart’s Fabric in the Seabright neighborhood of Santa Cruz has a lovely selection. Beverly’s in Soquel has lots of options as well.
Check your local thrift store for fabric as well.
Online options: FabScrap (https://fabscrap.org/) for upcycled fabrics and Swanson’s Fabric (https://www.swansonsfabrics.com) also has upcycled fabrics.Â
Classes happen at the No Trace sewing studio, 421 McCormick Ave in Capitola.
